Robert suffers from Marie Charcot Tooth Syndrome which is a common problem suffered by people with diabetes. It is clear the shape of the underside of the foot which creates problems with making the correct footwear.
The boots supplied through the NHS
The boots were distorted and of poor appearance. More important though is that the inside of the boot offered no protection to the foot.
The insole offered little protection
The insole inside the boot offered little protection to the foot which regularly ulcerated. Using the correct material would have offered some padding but still not reduced the pressure on that area of the foot.
Inside the NHS boot
The hard and flat insole in the boot had the effect of creating extra pressure on the foot.
The correct cradles were required
We took casts of the bottom of the foot so that an exact matching cradle could be made. The materials used gave comfort and support and are designed to relieve the area whilst weight bearing. The result was the feet remained free of ulcers.
The finished new shoes
The soft but malleable upper leather helped to support the foot and control swelling, whilst the cradle built into the shoe ensured the shoe remained comfortable and supportive.
