Private Orthotics
Privately made orthotics and insoles.
Good orthotics can make a real difference to the comfort and mobility of the user, but we are seeing an increasing number of people who have been supplied with poorly made and ill fitting orthotics which can lead to the deterioration of the condition they were originally prescribed for. We believe that orthotics where possible should where possible remain functional. That means the foot is allowed to work to the best of it's ability with the orthotic in place, rather than the orthotic taking over the function of the foot entirely. It is for this reason we do not make the rigid sort of insoles commonly used by some clinics. We use a variety of materials which are laminated to create a strong but lightweight orthotic which fits into the shoe correctly an d enables the foot to function to its maximum capability.
All footwear and orthotics orders are accepted on the understanding that deposits cannot be returned after work has commenced on the order.
Making the right orthotics is particularly difficult because of the need to understand the interaction between the feet and the shoes, further complicated by any problems caused by the shoes being used by the wearer. It is for this reason that great care and attention is required to make sure that each orthotic fits correctly. Making orthotics is not an exact science and I ask my customers to understand that while I aim to achieve 100% success this is not always possible.
Hopefully you will enjoy wearing your new orthotics and I look forward to welcoming you as a new customer.
Appointments.
First appointment: An assessment is made of your feet which will enable us to decide which type of orthotic is most suitable for your needs. A cast is then taken of the feet.
Second appointment: The orthotics will first be tried against the feet to check their accuracy and the machined to fit within the shoe to ensure a comfortable fit. A short assessment will determine if the orthotics are correct or require further alteration.
Review appointment: It might be necessary to have a further appointment to review the comfort and fit of the finished forthotics.
Adjustments and alterations are made as and when required and will be made free of charge in most cases.
All given delivery dates are estimated and subject to change.
Home visits.
I offer a limited 'home visit' service within the Peak District National Park.
Help with the cost of your orthotics
It is more important that you receive the orthotics you need without having to worry whether you can afford them. I will always try and work out ways of spreading the payments or other ways of financing this service. Over the past few years we have identified a variety of organisations and charities who have helped in specific cases, some of those will only support their own members while other may help more generally. These are a few of the charitable organisations who are able to help people under certain circumstances.
The Barchester Healthcare Association
The Stroke Association
The Hospital Saturday Fund
The Ex-Serviceman's Association
Please ask if you need help with paying for your orthotics, or let me know of any other organisations who are able to help.
Remember, you may be entitled to have your orthotics provided free of charge through the NHS, please see the 'NHS Footwear' section.
